Man Charged with Felony Animal Cruelty and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct (25-118)

ST. PETERSBURG – On September 29, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau responded to a residence in unincorporated St. Petersburg for a report of animal abuse and lewd and lascivious conduct.

Throughout the course of the investigation, deputies learned that earlier in the day, 44-year-old Nigel Myers followed a 15-year-old victim into a bedroom of the home. The victim was able to leave the bedroom; however, Myers followed her into the living room and continued trying to get her back into the bedroom. During this altercation, a 3-year-old pit bull named Sparta approached Myers and began jumping on him in a protective manner.

Deputies say Myers picked up Sparta and threw him against the top compartment of a dog cage. Shortly after, Myers picked up Sparta by his two hind legs and threw him off the second-floor balcony of the residence. Sparta was transported to a nearby animal hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Myers was arrested and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, Domestic Battery, Child Abuse, and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
