Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Death Does Not Appear Suspicious In Nature (25-114)

PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 65-year-old Paul Dechene.

 

Detectives say Dechene was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on July 11, 2025, at 4:40 p.m., by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for one count of Violation of Pre-Trial Release (Domestic Violence).

 

According to detectives, on September 16, 2025, at approximately 8:44 a.m., Dechene was found unresponsive on his bed. Detention and medical staff attempted to perform life-saving measures. Dechene was pronounced deceased at 9:29 a.m.

 

At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Dechene was involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while incarcerated at the jail.

 

Dechene’s next of kin has been notified.

 

The investigation continues.
