Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Death Does Not Appear Suspicious In Nature (25-145)
PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 56-year-old Matthew Marchione.
Detectives say Marchione was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on November 16, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., by the Pinellas Park Police Department for one count of Simple Battery.
According to detectives, on December 3, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., Marchione was observed with a self-inflicted laceration above his right eyebrow. Marchione was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Upon his return to Pinellas County Jail around 10:13 p.m., Marchione became unresponsive and life saving measures were performed by medical and detention staff. Marchione was pronounced deceased at 11:01 p.m.
At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Marchione was involved in any physical altercations while incarcerated at the jail.
Marchione’s next of kin has been notified.
The investigation continues.
