Detectives Arrest Clearwater Man for Attempted Murder (25-080)

CLEARWATER – Detectives assigned to the Robbery & Homicide Unit have arrested a Clearwater man for Attempted Murder in the First Degree.

 

On June 5, 2025, at approximately 8:11 p.m., 24-year-old Derrius Laskett was driven to the hospital where he was found to be suffering from two gunshot wounds. Laskett directed the Clearwater Police Department to the incident location near the intersection of Auburn Street Northwest and Carnegie Avenue. Due to the location being in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) jurisdiction, PCSO detectives assumed the investigation.  

 

According to detectives, Laskett and 24-year-old Jamarl Spence were involved in a road rage incident. Immediately following the incident, Laskett, who was a passenger, exited the vehicle while they exchanged words. According to detectives, Spence then produced a handgun and fired several shots at Laskett, hitting him twice.

 

Laskett was treated for his injuries and has since been released.

 

Spence was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

 

The investigation continues.
