Detectives Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide in Dunedin (25-102)

DUNEDIN – Detectives assigned to the Robbery & Homicide Unit are investigating a murder-suicide in Dunedin.

On August 25, 2025, at approximately 8:07 p.m., deputies responded to 1561 Mac Charles Court in Dunedin for a welfare check. Deputies learned 54-year-old Charles Reid Jr. was sending suicidal text messages to family members. When deputies arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with Reid but were unsuccessful. Deputies located an unsecured door and entered the home, where they located Reid’s girlfriend, 42-year-old Sarah Bulat, deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. While deputies continued checking the residence, they heard a single gunshot come from a bathroom, where they discovered Reid with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Reid was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

Detectives believe Reid murdered Bulat and then took his own life. Several suicide notes were found inside the home. 

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
